The IT Track  supports plans for new ventures with an information technology emphasis (software, SaaS, etc.).

  • Top teams win the opportunity to advance to the NVC Finals starting at 5:30PM on April 5, 2012 at CU’s Wolf Law Courtroom.

Submission Criteria:

  • 2 page executive summary. The executive summary describes the business idea, and addresses the opportunity, product, target market and industry, business and resources, market strategy, sustainable advantage, financials, and key risks and future needs.
  • Presentation deck. Think of this as a investor presentation. Submit up to 10 slides.
  • In-person presentation. Teams will have 5 minutes to present and 5 minutes for Q&A with a panel of three judges. This presentation should include a creative demonstration of your business idea (e.g. a prototype, video, skit– impress us!). Presentations will take place on Monday, March 19 starting at 5:30PM in Room 204 of the Wolf Law Building.
            Mentors: If you are planning to compete in this year’s NVC but have yet to connect to a mentor, please let us know and we will find a mentor for you. Spring 2012 IT Track: After NVC Bootcamp on January 18, the IT Track will conduct a series of four crash courses. Each of the first three crash courses will have a mini-competition with $500 in prizes for each crash course! The fourth crash course will culminate in IT Track Finals, with $5,000 in prizes available. IT Track Schedule (dates and course/submission specifics subject to change):
  • Bootcamp Breakout Session 1.18: IT biz development – lessons from Gary Moskoff.
  • Module 1: Getting Started (1.26 to 2.3) [Camilo Lopez: Influential Force]
    • Course held on Thursday, 1.26 in room 207 at CU Law, 6 pm.
    • During this phase, each team should plan the basics for its business.
      • Idea generation
      • Industry + market + financial analysis
      • Meet with your mentor at least once
    • Submission at conclusion of Module 1:

    • Prize: $500 prize pool; winner selected by Wednesday, 2.8.
  • Module 2: Get out of the Building (2.8 to 2.20) [Zach Nies: Rally Software]
    • Course held Wednesday, 2.8 in room 204 at CU Law, 6 pm.
    • Discover and validate customer segments and what pain they are experiencing – figure out the problem before the solution.
    • Propose a solution to the problem and validate it with potential customers.
    • Get feedback from potential customers on a demo or prototype.
    • Submission at conclusion of Module 2:
      • Your problem validation interview script
      • Video of team conducting a problem interview with someone from your customer segment
      • Your solution validation interview script
      • Video of team conducting a solution validation interview with a potential customer

    • Submission at conclusion of Module 3:
      • 5 minute video of the team’s investor pitch (you can use YouTube, DropBox or another video site)
      • Submit by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, 2.29.
    • Prize: $500 prize pool; winner selected by Sunday, 3.4.
  • Module 4: Build Your MVP (3.1 to 3.23) [Heather Terenzio + Alex Viggio]
    • Course held Wednesday, February 29, 6 pm in Wolf Law 204

    • Submission at conclusion of Module 4:
      • Part 1: 10 slide deck + 2 page executive summary (due 11:59 pm on Thursday, 3.15).
      • Part 2: Teams give a presentation that includes a working demo or refined wireframe. Presentation = 5 minutes with 5 minute Q&A from IT Track judge(s). In-person presentations on the evening (5:30 pm) of Monday, 3.19.  Presentations will be in Wolf Law Rooms 204 and 205
    • $5,000 prize pool
The Winner of the IT Track will go onto NVC Finals (open to all tracks), held in the afternoon/evening of Thursday, April 5. Each course will be taught by a professional entrepreneur and we will work to accommodate their schedules and course/judging specifics.
